1. What is Tread Hurling?
Tread Hurling is a high-intensity hybrid sport that combines elements of football, MMA, wrestling, CrossFit, and track. Players use a specially designed Hurling Wheel to score by advancing it into the opponent’s end zone. The game is fast-paced, strategic, and focused on safety.
2. Is Tread Hurling safe?
Yes. Tread Hurling is built around safety-first rules. There are no helmet-to-helmet collisions, and players wear padded gear. Illegal contact, flat hurls, and unsafe behavior are all penalized to prevent injuries.
3. Who can play Tread Hurling?
Tread Hurling is open to youth (ages 8+), teens, and adults. The sport is scalable for beginners, competitive players, and even pro-level athletes. Modified gear and rules are used for younger players.
4. What is the Hurling Wheel?
The Hurling Wheel is a 27–30 lb custom rubber wheel designed for rolling, hurling, and control. It replaces the traditional ball used in other sports and is the centerpiece of gameplay.
5. How do you score in Tread Hurling?
Teams have 4 chances (called a drive) to hurl the wheel into the opponent’s end zone. If they fail, they can use a one-time 5th Hurl Option for a final chance. A full score requires the wheel to cross into the end zone completely.
6. What gear is required to play?
Players must wear a soft padded helmet, gloves, padded shirt or vest, shin guards, and cleats. All gear must be worn correctly, and instructors check gear before every session or match.
7. How can I join a team?
You can join a team by contacting a certified instructor near you or checking the Teams or Schedule page. Tryouts and training camps are also held before tournaments and league seasons.
8. How do I become a certified instructor?
Enroll in the Tread Hurling Instructor Certification Course. It includes 8 modules, a written quiz, and a practical coaching assessment. After passing, you’ll receive your certification and be listed as an official Specialist.
9. What can I do after certification?
Certified instructors can launch official Tread Hurling clubs, train players, lead teams in tournaments, access exclusive coaching tools, and be featured on the Tread Hurling website.
